At Holton, we deliver a unique and bespoke curriculum based on outdoor education, to pupils in Key Stage 2, 3, 4 and 5 (in the 9-20 age range) with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Our school sites provide unique and inspirational environments where children and young people can learn to trust again, thrive and develop. For us, there is no limit placed on personal and academic potential, but we pride ourselves on our highly individualised approach and know that no two young people are the same.
Our teams support children and young people to develop successful strategies to help them grow into an independent individual, equipped with the knowledge, experience and life skills to look to the future with increased confidence and aspiration.
We believe that unless a young person is able to feel emotionally secure, they are less likely to fulfil their personal, social and educational potential.
Fulfilment comes from empowering children and young people to achieve their full potential. By celebrating individuality and providing opportunities for personal growth, we help them build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to thrive both in school and beyond.
The staff here are always happy. They know us really well and have a different approach for every pupil – I think that’s one of the best things about this school.
At Holton, we deliver a unique and bespoke Outdoor Education based curriculum to all our pupils. We make the most of the vast opportunities on our doorstep for outdoor pursuits and water sports which is crucial to our Holton approach.
Learning to learn through Outdoor Education helps pupils build key relationships with our highly experienced SEMH staff and enables those pupils to progress towards their own personal academic and social goals.
The Holton experience will aim to provide pupils with the skills and confidence needed to play a full and active part in society at the end of their time with us.
Learning happens in so many different ways; it isn’t just about sitting at a desk. In sports science, I find that the more practical we can be, the better. It completely changes the environment and the students’ entire experience with education. Many students come to us associating a desk and chair with the expectation that they will fail. We flip that script. We get them active, show them what they are capable of, and surround them with praise and positivity. It allows them to finally recognise abilities and talents they never knew they had.
✨ What’s been happening in the Upper School this term? ✨

Today, we welcomed our second visit from an ex-pupil this week — and what a lovely reminder of how far we’ve come.
Alfie was our third ever pupil, and five years on, we’re now having a positive impact on over 100 pupils.
One of the things we’re most proud of is seeing our pupils return to visit staff and share their achievements. Today, Alfie dropped in to say hello and proudly hand out his business cards after successfully setting up his own business.
We couldn’t be prouder of him and everything he has achieved. 💙
Another fantastic success story and a brilliant example of what can happen when young people are given the right support, encouragement and opportunities.
Experiences like this fishing residential are hugely beneficial. They support personal development, strengthen positive relationships between pupils and staff, and create lasting memories that can be brought back into everyday school life.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the residential such a positive and memorable experience. 🎣👏

Enrichment activities provide valuable opportunities for our pupils to develop skills and knowledge beyond the classroom. They support the achievement of school targets by building confidence, teamwork, communication, creativity and independence. By offering a range of engaging activities, pupils are encouraged to develop their interests, challenge themselves and apply their learning in different contexts! 💜
